Originating in Africa, the Mocko Jumbies were believed to have walked across the ocean to give spiritual support to the slaves in the Caribbean and with their towering height could foresee danger and evil. When slavery was abolished, the Mocko Jumbies became a joy-filled sight and are adorned with bright, festive colors and hats. They are considered a part of the traditions and heritage of the West Indian people.
