Guro Heddle Pulley to Double-shed Loom

$95.00

Heddle pulleys are used in weaving cloth from cotton and are often carved with symbolic imagery. They are an integral part of the double-shed loom common in West Africa. It was used to open the space so the shuttle could pass through the threads.

The Guro are considered prolific artists, even their utensils are carefully decorated. They are mostly farmers and their crafts embrace imageries tied to the land and the family. They inhabit the Ivory Coast in an area of savannahs and dense tropical forests.

This pulley has a lovely elongated face and delicate etching. It stands 14 inches tall.
