Sand dollars are burrowing sea urchins. They are often found together on the ocean floor. After their demise they are washed ashore and their skeletons are bleached white by the sun. Their appearance reminds one of an old silver coin thus the name sand dollar. Other popular names are sea biscuit sea cookie and pansy shells!
