Shark Tooth Fossil

Fascinating fossilized shark tooth cradled in a wide sterling silver cap bail. After a tooth is shed, it is buried in sediment on the ocean floor. The organic portion decays away and the space it occupied is filled with minerals. Fossilized shark teeth are different colors depending on the sediment in which they are buried. It takes about 10 000 years for a tooth to fossilize.

Shark teeth are considered a symbol of strength and protection. They are also worn as talisman for good luck and for adaptability by various cultures that believe sharks are connected to these primal qualities.
