Roman Coin of Maximinus Daia Roman Emperor 308 to 313AD
Galerius Valerius Maximianus, known as Maximinus Daia, was a Roman Empire who ruled the Eastern part of the Empire, which is present day Syria and Egypt, from 308-313AD. He was known for his staunch paganism and of persecution of Christians during his reign. It is noted that at the end of his life, shortly before his death in 313, he granted full toleration of Christians and restored the confiscated church property.
One side of the coin shows the profiled bust of Maximinus. The reverse side is a very clear relief of two soldiers with a Victory between them. The personification of Victory is a frequent theme on Roman coins associated with the celebration of military victories. Please see below for a size reference.
