Burkina Faso Bobo Tribe Bronze Turtle Totem

Love and reverence are so apparent in this beautifully made bronze totem turtle. In the Bobo tribes of the southwest region of Burkina Faso, many traditionalist clansmen are animist and they believe animals embody bush spirits. Each family places ritual objects such as this bronze totem on their family shrine to guide and protect each other.

Animism encompasses belief that all things - animal, plants, rocks, rivers, and humans are animated and alive. All things possess a spiritual essence, a soul.

This bronze is created by the lost wax casting. Every mold is destroyed every time just to be able to remove the casting, therefore every piece is unique and one of a kind. Please see below for a size reference.
