Handcarved Rosewood Gecko from Bali

Who doesn't love a gecko? A familiar sight on St John are these funny little squiggly reptiles that can be tiny to small to medium sized. Many fun facts are attributed to these lizards - like there are 1196 different species of geckos, they are found on every continent except Antartica, and they have no eyeids! Geckos can walk on trees, walls, windows and ceilings. They will often live inside a house, where they are quite welcome because they eat many insects.

This smooth and graceful wood carving is handmade in Bali, Indonesia. It is carved from rosewood, which is a very popular hardwood. It is strong and dense and a pretty reddish brown with darker veining. This gecko is 6.5 inches long and 3 inches wide.
